About ChessDepth Academy

We teach students to understand the why behind every move, through a structured curriculum, regular testing and coaches who care about how each student thinks.

Our story

Built by engineers who love chess

ChessDepth Academy was started by AFM Sourabh Joshi, a FIDE-rated player with an engineering background. He noticed that most students were memorising moves without understanding them. They knew what to play in familiar positions, and got lost as soon as the position changed.

So we built the academy the way an engineer would: a clear syllabus, worksheets that build on each other, tests that measure progress, and feedback based on real games. Every lesson answers one question: why does this move work?

Today, ChessDepth coaches students online from Bhopal and beyond. Our coaching team includes a FIDE Grandmaster, a Candidate Master and rated specialists in tactics, endgames and openings.

Mission

To make every student a thinking chess player, one who understands positions instead of memorising moves, and who takes focus, patience and decision-making from the board into school, work and life.

To get there, we bring students the best technology we can build, so that learning chess is simple, well organised and genuinely fun, with less time spent setting up boards and searching for material, and more time spent thinking.

Our curriculum is split into levels, each with its own worksheets, concept books and quizzes. Students move up when the tests show they are ready, not just when time has passed.

Level 1

Foundation

Rules, piece activity, basic checkmates, forks, pins and opening principles.

Level 2

Intermediate

Calculation with checks, captures and threats, pawn structures, simple endgames and planning.

Level 3

Advanced

Positional play, rook endgames, an opening repertoire and converting advantages.

Frequently asked questions

Are classes online or in person?

Classes are held online, so students can join from anywhere. We’re based in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.

What age can my child start?

Children can usually start from about 5 years old. We place every student by level, not age, after the free demo class.

How will I know my child is improving?

Students get regular homework and a quiz every eight sessions. Coaches review the results and games and share clear feedback on strengths and what to work on next.

One-to-one or group, which is better?

One-to-one classes (₹5,999 or $90 / month) are fully personalised and best for fast improvement. Group classes of 2–4 students (₹4,500 or $69 / month) are more affordable and great for discussion. Both include 8–10 live classes a month of 60–70 minutes each. The demo class helps you decide.

Do students get study material?

Yes. Students receive worksheets and concept books for their level, and can download PDF material from our Student Area.
