ChessDepth Academy ("ChessDepth", "we", "us") runs this website, chessdepth.in, and offers online chess coaching from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India. This policy explains what information we collect through the website, why we collect it, and the choices you have. If you have any questions, write to info@chessdepth.in.
Information you give us
- Inquiry and contact forms. When you send a form, we receive the details you enter: for example your name, age, chess rating, phone number, email address, the course you are interested in, and your message. Forms are delivered to us by Formspree.
- WhatsApp, phone and email. If you contact us through the WhatsApp buttons, by phone or by email, we receive your number or address and the messages you send. WhatsApp is operated by Meta under its own privacy policy.
- Student Area. When the Student Area is available and you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile photo from Google, and we keep a record of when you first and last signed in. This is stored with Google Firebase.
- Chess Lab. When you sign in to the Chess Lab, we store your training progress (for example puzzle rating, points, level, day streak, puzzles solved and opening-course progress) with your account in Google Firebase. If you link a ChessDepth Academy enrollment number, we store it with your account so the Lab stays unlocked for you. Your first name with your weekly points and best Puzzle Streak appears on the Lab leaderboards, which other signed-in Lab users can see; we never show surnames or email addresses there.
- Reviews. When you post a review of our academy, a coach, a course, the Chess Lab or a Shop product, you sign in with Google and we store your star rating, your review, the name you choose to show (we suggest your first name and the initial of your surname), whether you are a student, parent or other player, and the dates. Your review, chosen name and role are public on our website as soon as you post them. If you have linked a ChessDepth Academy enrollment number, your review shows a "Verified student" badge. We never show your email address. You can edit or delete your review at any time. We may reply publicly, and we hide reviews only if they contain abuse, spam, advertising or personal details.
- Linked Lichess account. If you link your Lichess username in the Student Area, we store the username with your account so your report loads each time, and your coaches can see it. Your report is built in your browser from your public Lichess games and ratings, using Lichess's free public API; we never ask for your Lichess password. You can unlink at any time.
- Shop purchases. Products in our Shop are sold and delivered by Gumroad. When you buy, Gumroad collects your payment details and email address under its own privacy policy, and shares your name, email address and what you bought with us so we can support you. We never see your card or UPI details.
We use this information only to answer your questions, arrange demo classes and lessons, run the Student Area, and keep in touch with you about your classes.
Information collected automatically
- Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the site, for example which pages are visited, how people arrive (such as from a Google search), what type of device and browser they use, their approximate location (city or country), and which contact buttons are clicked. Google Analytics uses cookies. It does not tell us who you are. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
- Embedded content and fonts. The map on our Contact page is provided by Google Maps, and fonts and some page components are loaded from Google Fonts, jsDelivr and cdnjs. These services receive your device's IP address when they deliver content to your browser.
Information stored only on your device
Some features remember your choices in your own browser's storage, not on our servers: your night or day mode setting, and the endgames you tick on the Resources page checklist. You can clear them at any time by clearing your browser's site data.
Lichess game analyser
When you use the game analyser on the Resources page, your browser sends the Lichess username you type directly to Lichess to fetch public ratings and games. We do not store the usernames you look up.
Children
Many of our students are children. We ask that a parent or guardian fills in our forms, contacts us, or agrees to their child's use of the Student Area on the child's behalf. If you believe a child has given us personal information without a parent's agreement, please contact us and we will delete it.
Sharing your information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers named above, which help us run the website and our classes, and when the law requires us to.
How long we keep information
We keep inquiry and contact details for as long as we need them to respond to you and, if you become a student, for as long as you study with us. Google Analytics data is kept according to the retention period set in our Analytics account.
Your choices and rights
- You can ask us to show, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, or to stop contacting you, by emailing info@chessdepth.in.
- You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
Security
The website is served over a secure (HTTPS) connection, and we only use well-known service providers to handle form messages and sign-ins. No method of sending or storing information online is completely secure, but we take reasonable care to protect your information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our website or services change. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
